A Place to Think Out Loud

I've been thinking about starting this for a while.

Not because I have a grand editorial plan - though I do now - but because so much of what happens in the consultation room deserves more space than a fifteen-minute appointment allows. The questions patients don't quite finish asking. The reasoning behind a recommendation. The small observations that accumulate over years of practice and never quite find a home.

This blog is that home.

A little about me

I grew up in Malaysia, studied medicine at the University of Liverpool, and have been practising in Singapore for a number of years now. I trained in family medicine first - which I think shaped how I approach patients more than any aesthetic qualification has - and later completed a Diploma in Aesthetic Medicine with the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine, alongside a Graduate Diploma in Family Practice Dermatology and Sports Medicine.

The qualifications matter. But what actually keeps me going is the work itself. The consultation that takes an unexpected turn. The patient who comes in for one thing and leaves with clarity about something else entirely. The result that arrives quietly, weeks after treatment, when the patient almost forgot to look.

I'm the Medical Director of Journey Aesthetics Medical Clinic in Katong, Singapore. The treatments I work with regularly include botulinum toxin, dermal fillers, skinboosters, polynucleotides, exosomes, Ultherapy Prime, Fotona 4D, and Corage 2.0. But the work begins long before any of those - in the conversation that establishes what a patient actually needs, and why.

What I believe

We live in a world full of loud trends and quick fixes. I'm not interested in either.

Good aesthetic medicine, to me, is a conversation. I listen before I assess. I assess before I recommend. And I recommend only what I'd be comfortable explaining in full - the mechanism, the realistic outcome, the alternatives, the reasons to wait.

My philosophy is restraint before intervention. Natural results over visible ones. Long-term thinking over short-term correction. The goal is never to change how someone looks. It's to help them look like themselves - rested, supported, at ease.

What you'll find here

This blog covers the full range of treatments at Journey Aesthetics Medical Clinic - from injectables like dermal fillers and botulinum toxin, to energy-based devices like Ultherapy Prime and Fotona 4D, to regenerative treatments like polynucleotides and exosomes. Alongside the clinical content, I write about the quieter side of aesthetic medicine - the psychology of why people come in, how they make decisions, and what good care actually looks like from the inside.

Some posts are reflective. Some are educational. Some are both. All of them are written the way I'd explain something to a patient sitting across from me - honestly, without unnecessary complexity, and with enough detail to be genuinely useful.

I go to conferences, read widely, and am selective about what I bring into practice. Innovation is only interesting when it's safe, evidence-supported, and in service of the person in front of me.

Outside the clinic

I keep active with Pilates and tennis. I have a baby who reminds me daily that presence matters more than perfection. Those two things - movement and being fully in the moment - inform how I practise more than I sometimes realise.

If you're a patient, a fellow clinician, or someone just beginning to think about aesthetic care - welcome. If something here raises a question, or you'd like to talk about your own skin, the consultation door at Journey Aesthetics is always open.
