How Long Do Fillers and Skinboosters Last?
Wondering how long fillers and skinboosters last? Discover what affects their longevity, how results fade, and why gentle maintenance gives the most natural outcome.
One of the most common questions I hear in clinic is, “How long will my results last?”
The truth is, there isn’t one simple answer — because how long fillers or skinboosters last depends on many factors: the product used, where it’s placed, your metabolism, lifestyle, and even how expressive your face is.
But there’s a rhythm to it — and understanding that rhythm helps you make thoughtful, confident decisions about your treatments.
Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are among the most commonly used because they’re safe, versatile, and reversible.
Typical duration: 6 to 18 months
Longevity depends on:
- Placement: Softer fillers used for lips or under-eyes break down faster, while denser ones in the cheeks or jawline last longer.
- Product choice: Different brands have different levels of crosslinking (which affects how firm and long-lasting the gel is).
- Metabolism: Those with faster metabolisms or who exercise intensely may notice results fade a little sooner.
HA fillers don’t disappear overnight — they gradually integrate into your tissues, maintaining softness and natural movement as they fade.
Collagen-Stimulating Fillers
These include PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid), CaHA (calcium hydroxylapatite), and PCL (polycaprolactone). They work differently — instead of simply adding volume, they encourage your body to rebuild its own collagen.
Typical duration: 18 months to over 2 years
Because collagen takes time to form, results appear gradually, peaking several months after treatment. The effect also tends to last longer than HA fillers, though it cannot be instantly dissolved — which is why proper assessment and planning are key.
Skinboosters
Skinboosters are often mistaken for fillers because they also contain hyaluronic acid — but their purpose is completely different.
While fillers add structure or contour, skinboosters focus purely on hydration and skin quality. The HA in skinboosters is much softer and more fluid, allowing it to spread smoothly beneath the skin to improve glow, elasticity, and texture.
Typical duration: 6 to 9 months
Many patients choose to do maintenance sessions two to three times a year, building a steady rhythm of radiance and hydration. Over time, results can become longer-lasting as the skin barrier and hydration balance improve.
What Affects Longevity
Beyond product type, results can vary based on:
- Treatment area: Dynamic zones (like lips) metabolise faster than static areas (like temples).
- Lifestyle: Sun exposure, smoking, and stress all accelerate breakdown.
- Aftercare: Proper hydration, gentle skincare, and maintenance touch-ups extend results beautifully.
A More Natural Rhythm
Rather than chasing the longest-lasting filler, the goal should be consistency. Gentle, well-timed maintenance keeps your results fresh and harmonious — without ever feeling “overdone.”
Just like skincare or exercise, the best outcomes come from small, steady efforts that evolve with your skin’s needs.
